Job Duties
SWVMHI in Marion, VA is recruiting for 12-hour, PM Shift Psychiatric Care Technicians/CNAs to join its talented and dedicated Nursing Services Team. Position Hours: 6:30 p.m.- 7:00 a.m. Working at Least Every Other Weekend Shift Differentials and Weekend/Holiday Supplements Available
Responsibilities
- Assist Nurses By Providing quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Maintaining accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment
- Creating healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions unit, geriatric unit, and Extended Rehabilitation Service unit
- Observing and reporting feedback regarding interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical condition, emotional well-being, and other situations
- Documenting and communicating using specialized training for promoting mental wellness recovery
Qualifications
- KSAs and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work
- Ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe patient behavior by observing, interacting, and listening
- Ability to read, write and speak in the English language
- Ability to observe, report and document changes in patients’ mental, physical and behavioral status
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to maintain all required orientation and annual competencies
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers and patients from varied backgrounds using effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to recognize the need and ask for help or assistance in providing care and treatment
- Ability to give and receive effective feedback and perform as a member of a team
- Ability to administer CPR and perform Therapeutic Options approved physical interventions
- Ability to work overtime hours, rotating weekends, and holidays
- Ability to use email and electronic health records
Knowledge
- Knowledge of basic treatment measures to promote mental health appropriate to the adult, developmentally disabled or impaired, and/or geriatric populations
- Knowledge of personal care needs and activities of daily living
- Ability to work overtime in a staffing emergency
- Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal involvement
Minimum Qualifications
- Maintain CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) certification in good standing with the VA State Board of Nursing
Additional Considerations
- Experience in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care or correction setting is preferred
- A High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- A Valid Driver's License preferred
