PSW II - Sanitation CDL (Express)

Basic Function

The City of Independence will accept applications at Express Employment, 2009 North Penn Avenue for a PSW II position for work at the Sanitation Department. Alternately, applicants may also apply online at www.expresspros.com/independenceks/.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Installs, repairs, and locates water and sewer mains and lines
• Maintains operation of the water and wastewater treatment plants
• Repairs streets, manholes and street signs
• Picks-up and disposes of trash and brush
• Reads, maintains, repairs, tests, and replaces water meters
• Trains in operation of equipment
• Turns on and off water service
• Maintains and repairs water pumps and service stations
• May supervise a small crew of laborers
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Some knowledge of the materials, mechanical devices, tools, and techniques of maintenance and construction
• Ability to safely operate trucks and medium and heavy equipment
• Knowledge of methods and tools used to read, repair, and operate water meters
• Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations
• Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions
• Ability to supervise and work well with a small team

Special Requirements

• A current Kansas drivers license
• A Class B drivers license
• Must be available to work nights, overtime, and weekends

Physical Requirements

• Intense physical effort is required.
• Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.
• Working Conditions
• Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.

SALARY RANGE

The starting salary for this position is $15.50 per hour\*. Eligible for hire with the City after 720 hours with Express.
