Job Summary
The Parish School of Religion (PSR) Teacher at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church provides religious instruction and faith formation to children and youth, helping students develop a deeper understanding of Catholic teachings, scripture, prayer, sacraments, and Christian values. The teacher fosters spiritual growth through classroom instruction, faith-based activities, and encouragement of active participation in parish life.
Job Responsibilities
- Teach weekly religion classes using the parish-approved curriculum.
- Instruct students in Catholic doctrine, scripture, prayer, Church traditions, and moral teachings.
- Prepare students for sacraments, including First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
- Lead classroom prayer, discussions, and faith-based learning activities.
- Create a positive, safe, and respectful faith-centered learning environment.
- Encourage students to practice Christian values and participate in parish life.
- Communicate with parents, parish staff, and religious education leaders regarding student progress and classroom needs.
- Maintain attendance records and classroom documentation.
- Participate in teacher meetings, training sessions, and parish events.
- Adhere to parish and Archdiocesan policies and Safe Environment requirements.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, scripture, and Church teachings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective classroom management and organizational abilities.
- Ability to engage and mentor children and youth.
- Commitment to serving as a positive Christian role model.
- Experience working with children in an educational, religious, or volunteer setting preferred.
Job Requirements
- Completion of Archdiocesan Safe Environment training.
- Successful completion of required background screening.
- Ability to prepare and deliver age-appropriate religious education lessons.
- Regular attendance at assigned classes, meetings, and training sessions.
- Compliance with all parish and Archdiocesan policies and procedures.
- Commitment to supporting the faith formation and spiritual development of students.
