University of Utah Health Sciences seeks qualified, board-certified Nurse Practitioners to join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. As the only academic medical center in the Intermountain West, we perform nearly 1,000 cardiothoracic cases annually, including advanced heart failure, mechanical support, and thoracic transplantation. Our team-focused division serves as a central training hub for Thoracic Surgery residents and PAs in the region.
Responsibilities
- Full perioperative scope of practice
- Shared floor and ICU responsibilities
- Consults, discharges, and clinic follow-up
- Chest tube placement and removal
- Arterial line and central line placement as needed
- Endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting
- Assist in all aspects of surgery
- Outpatient care coordination
- Take complex medical histories on referred patients
- Perform physical examinations
- Order laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic procedures
- Order and supervise administration of blood products
- Reach tentative diagnoses of medical, surgical, and other conditions
- Develop treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians
- Participate in continuing medical education (specialty meetings, conferences, etc.)
- Assist in data collection for research projects
- Order consultations and interact with other specialty medical teams
- Participate in special projects and committee functions
Requirements
- Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah
- Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent (current NP licensure qualifies as equivalency)
- National Certification through a nationally accredited examination
- Utah State prescriptive privileges
- Must apply for credentialing and privileging at time of hire (UHPPM 1-56)
- Patient-sensitive position requiring immunization compliance per CDC standards and hospital policy
- Potential ability to perform essential job functions as outlined
Preferences
- Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, or ATLS (may be required by department or privileging criteria)

- Often: Infectious disease exposure, oils/chemicals, hazards (moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical current, scaffolding, high places), repetitive hand motion, walking, standing, sitting

Pay
$112,237 – $143,104 annually
