About the role

The APC in the Division of General Surgery, Surgical Intensive Care Unit provides care to critically ill patients most of whom are post op or trauma patients. The provider will care for critically ill patients in a 12 bed ICU alongside residents, medical students, APC students, fellows, and faculty attending physicians. This position is Category I: Mandatory Required on Campus or at Health Care Facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Bedside care of critically ill patients in a 12 bed Surgical ICU
  • Perform procedures based on need, training, and proficiency
  • Participate in team meetings and education conferences
  • Creation of SICU APC and Resident call schedules
  • Opportunities for research and QI project involvement
  • Collaborate with multiple team members to ensure the best outcomes possible

Work Environment and Level of Frequency

  • Nearly Continuously: Office environment
  • Often: Infectious disease, oils (air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals)

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency

  • Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking
  • Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting
  • Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead

Requirements

  • Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges
  • Licensure obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner)
  • National Certification requiring successful completion of a nationally accredited examination
  • UHPPM 1-56 requires newly hired non-physician providers to apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements, including immunizations according to CDC standards and hospital policy
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job

Preferences

  • Critical care experience preferred but not required
  • Inpatient experience preferred

Pay

$101,650 – $135,000

Schedule

45–50 hours/week (clinical and nonclinical duties). 13 shifts/month (roughly 13-hour day with sign-outs), including a minimum of 5 night shifts/month.
