About the Role

The Bike Shop, an Engineering prototyping and fabrication department within the Hardware Directorate of Raytheon, seeks a Prototype Planner Section Leader. The mission of the Bike Shop is to enable program partners to successfully demonstrate solutions to engineering problems by providing rapid, innovative engineering solutions, prototype fabrication, and test support throughout a program’s development life cycle.

As a section leader, you will lead a group of approximately 15 prototype planners, overseeing duties such as BOM analysis, purchasing components, generating material status reports, and managing quality discrepancies. You will utilize tools including SAP (PRISM), Common PDM, MatTrak, and RAYTrak to ensure quality, cost, and schedule requirements are met for engineering hardware. The role involves serving as a focal point for specific programs to meet schedule and quality objectives, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and implementing continuous improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage kitting requests through Engineering stores
  • Develop inventory control to avoid schedule delays
  • Assist in processing program requests and shipments according to established schedules
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Engineering objectives, strategies, and support activities
  • Work with cross-functional teams to complete kitting requests on-time and within program requirements
  • Supervise a team of up to 15 individuals, focusing on performance and career development
  • Maintain section capabilities and ensure adequate staffing for the Bike Shop
  • Conduct performance development, appraisals, salary planning, and manpower planning
  • Provide career coaching and ensure adherence to company policies
  • Monitor project execution, on-time delivery, and provide technical expertise
  • Serve as a liaison between section members and the Department Leader

  • Maintain communication with customers, procurement, shop management, and department management
  • Provide material and labor estimates for planner work and conduct bid reviews
  • Lead engineering reviews of new requests and redline documentation
  • Conduct monthly team meetings for communication, flow-down, and training
  • Manage manpower needs, including interviewing, hiring, and on-boarding
  • Help employees create and implement career growth and training plans
  • Conduct performance impact discussions

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and six (6) years of relevant experience OR, in absence of a degree, twelve (12) years of relevant experience
  • Experience with prototype planning
  • Working knowledge of SAP/PRISM for material procurement and movement
  • History of achieving alignment and collaboration between disciplines to meet organizational and programmatic objectives
  • Supplier quoting and interface experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance required prior to start date (DoD Secret or higher preferred)
  • U.S. citizenship required (only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Business Administration
  • Working knowledge of electronic components
  • Experience in a direct customer-facing role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Active DoD clearance: Secret or higher

Pay

The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
