About the role
The Department of State seeks candidates for a Protective Security Specialist position in Erbil, Iraq. The primary function involves protecting the client in high-threat locations through various security operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day personal protective security functions.
- Drive the lead vehicle, principal's vehicle, follow vehicle, and/or act as a response agent during motorcade or similar operations.
- Carry and operate weapons as specified in daily post and detail orders.
- Participate in advance security preparations.
- Man the security post at the principal's residence, command post, or other static posts as required.
- Serve as a member of a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of applicable experience, with at least one (1) year including protective security assignments.
- Experience may be gained in the employ of any national, state, provincial, local, or commercial entities providing armed protective services.
- Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License and U.S. Passport with no less than 6 months remaining before expiration.
- Must be proficient in English speaking, writing, and communication skills.
- Must pass the pre-employment Physical Readiness Test (PRT) and qualify with the Glock-19, M4 or MK18, M240, and M249.
- Must maintain physical fitness readiness including medium and/or long-distance running, bench presses, agility runs, push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching.
- Must be able to travel long distances in airplanes, helicopters, and road vehicles.
Training (Paid Training)
- Attend and successfully complete the DOS Protective Security Specialist Basic and Quick Reaction Force training course.
- Pass a weapon and PRT requalification course on TO if already completed and/or served on a DOS TO within the last 3 years.
- Complete the WPS III PRT.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
- Must be approved for a Department of State Medical Clearance.
- Must be physically able to walk, squat, crawl, run, quickly enter/exit vehicles, maneuver around obstacles, carry heavy equipment and personnel, and operate mission-essential issued equipment requiring dexterity.
- Must be able to operate and/or travel in vehicles on improved and unimproved roadways, as well as off-road.
- Must be physically able to carry and operate firearms.
- Must maintain physical fitness readiness that includes, but is not limited to: medium and/or long-distance running, bench presses, agility runs, push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods with minimal breaks.
- Must possess no medical or physical impediments to traveling overseas to and within countries considered dangerous or unhealthy.
