About the role
The Department of State seeks a highly skilled individual to support their Worldwide Protective Services III (WPS III) Task Orders in austere environments. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in protecting the client in high-threat locations.
Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day personal protective security functions.
- Drive the lead vehicle, principal's vehicle, follow vehicle, and/or act as a response agent as required during motorcade or similar operations.
- Carry and operate weapons as specified in daily post and detail orders, or upon orders from the USC or SL.
- Participate in advance security preparations.
- Man the security post at the principal's residence, the command post, or other static posts as required.
- Serve as a member of a QRF as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of applicable experience, with at least one (1) year including experience in protective security assignments.
- Experience may be gained in the employ of any national, state, provincial, local, or commercial entities providing armed protective services.
- Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Must have a valid U.S. Passport with no less than 6 months remaining before expiration.
- Must be proficient in the ability to speak, write, and communicate in English.
- Must pass the pre-employment Physical Readiness Test (PRT) in order to advance in the application process for the position.
Training (Paid Training)
- Attend and successfully complete the DOS Protective Security Specialist Basic and Quick Reaction Force training course.
- If already completed and/or served on a DOS TO within the last 3 years, must pass a weapon and PRT requalification course on TO.
- Qualify with the Glock-19, M4 or MK18 (as specified by the designated TO), M240, and M249.
- Complete the WPS III PRT.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
- Must be approved for a Department of State Medical Clearance.
- Must be able to walk, squat, crawl, run, quickly enter/exit vehicles, maneuver around obstacles, carry heavy equipment and personnel, and operate mission-essential issued equipment requiring dexterity.
- Must be able to operate and/or travel in vehicles on improved and unimproved roadways, as well as off-road.
- Must be physically able to carry and operate firearms.
- Maintain physical fitness readiness that includes, but is not limited to: medium and/or long-distance running, bench presses, agility runs, push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods with minimal breaks.
- Must possess no medical or physical impediments to traveling overseas to and within countries considered dangerous or unhealthy.
- Must be able to travel long distances in airplanes, helicopters, and road vehicles.
