Protection and Control (P&C) Engineer - Transmission System Operations Engineering (TSOE)

This position is for the role of a Protection and Control (P&C) Engineer within the Transmission System Operations Engineering (TSOE) organization. The role entails supporting the activities necessary to ensure compliance to applicable NERC and industry standards related to configuration changes to the transmission grid.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to Transmission Field Services personnel in the final commissioning and verification of planned and unplanned work on the transmission grid.
• Review upcoming system outages for applicable configuration changes.
• Review engineering drawings and project information to ensure that systems of record align with as-built system condition.
• Perform Root Cause analysis on identified system of record discrepancies to identify process improvements opportunities and ensure accurate facility ratings and relay settings information.
• Exhibit journey-level proficiency plus advanced knowledge that enables leadership within the assigned organization, staying abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment.
• Understand and analyze interrelationships between systems and component equipment; interpret codes and regulations, and develop relevant standards.
• Provide guidance and exercise judgment in directing other Engineers, leading and coordinating work activities within the team and across departments.
• Ensure all work activities comply with company policies, practices, standards, and external regulations.
• Promote engineering professionalism and standards; coordinate and conduct training sessions.
• Participate in planning by establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements; coordinate input for projected project costs.
• Use scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget and planning; identify and initiate corrective actions when objectives are not met.
• Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to routine and complex problems, including analysis of inadequate or conflicting data.
• Develop, review, or prepare reports on complex technical subjects clearly and concisely for management, professional societies, and regulatory bodies.
• Lead and facilitate meetings effectively; coordinate work in an efficient and collaborative manner.
• Demonstrate collaborative and consensus-building skills; function as a team leader and member.
• Make decisions affecting plans and goals based on analysis of uncertain input and outcomes; assess risks and act accordingly.
• Exhibit awareness of AEP's competitive position and how business decisions impact the organizational unit; manage project budgets using cost management techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET* with 2 or more years of related engineering experience.
• Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may be considered for entry at this level with less experience.
• Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may satisfy the degree requirement if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• For Senior level (SG8): 4 or more years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited program, or 2 years with a Master's/PhD in an ABET-accredited program.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
• Schedule flexibility is required; candidates should expect to work outside of standard business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a non-ABET accredited program.

Pay

• Engineer/Engineering Technologist SG7: $89,000 - $110,000
• Engineer/Engineering Technologist Senior SG8: $110,000 - $129,000

Compensation Grade: SP20-008. Compensation Range: $87,633.00 - $128,688.00.
