Property Tax Manager
About the role
This position is located at our corporate office in Raleigh, NC and reports to the Manager, Property Tax. As a Property Tax Manager, you will own the compliance and strategic planning efforts for a select portfolio of Martin Marietta’s most complex properties, including real and business personal property tax compliance, assessments, valuation appeals, and related financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Manage multi-state real estate and business personal property tax compliance for a select portfolio of complex properties, ensuring adherence to local and state property tax regulations and filing deadlines.
- Identify, research, and aggressively pursue property tax savings opportunities.
- Independently manage the valuation appeal process, with heavy emphasis on complex jurisdictions.
- Manage monthly property tax accruals, forecasts, and true-ups using JDE and BlackLine for a select portfolio of properties.
- Analyze real estate and business personal property tax data using Microsoft Excel and PTMS to prepare reports and analyses related to property tax liabilities and savings opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and taxing jurisdiction personnel to support and optimize property tax strategies.
- Adhere to and maintain Company and SOX compliance, policies, and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive real estate and business personal property tax compliance experience in a mining and/or manufacturing industry.
- Significant experience handling appeals for a multistate portfolio, specifically including Texas.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience using JDE, BlackLine, and PTMS property tax software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines while working independently and collaboratively, exercising sound judgment and demonstrating accountability for results in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- CMI (Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation) or CPA preferred; not required.
