Property Tax Advisor, Texas

FairAppeal is a financial advisor for homeowners, helping them better manage their home finances, starting with property taxes. We are hiring advisors who know Texas to present prepared cases to county Appraisal Review Boards on behalf of property owners. Property taxes have increased 31% since 2019, and we help homeowners manage them.

About the role

We handle the research, build the case, and package the evidence. Your job is to review the prepared materials, present a clear and persuasive case on the property owner's behalf, handle any informal negotiation with the appraisal district, and report the result back to our team. This is flexible, supplemental work that suits CPAs and attorneys who want to take on cases on their own schedule. Many Appraisal Review Board hearings are conducted virtually or by phone; some districts require in-person attendance, which is staffed locally.

Responsibilities

• Review the prepared case materials and supporting evidence ahead of each hearing.
• Represent property owners at Appraisal Review Board hearings across Texas.
• Present the evidence clearly and persuasively to board members.
• Engage in informal negotiation or settlement discussions with the appraisal district where allowed.
• Report hearing outcomes back to the team.

Requirements

• Active Texas CPA or attorney license (Texas requires this to represent owners for a fee, unless you hold a Texas property tax consultant registration).
• Comfortable presenting and advocating in a hearing setting.
• Organized, reliable, and responsive.
• Familiar with Texas and how its local boards work (you do not need to live in the state).

Qualifications

Bonus if you have appeared before a valuation board or previously worked as an assessor, but neither is required.

Pay

Per-case compensation.

Every case comes to you fully built. You receive fully prepared cases and evidence packets, with a flexible caseload you can fit around existing work.
