This position is with the City of Fort Worth Police Department Auto Pound Unit, reporting to the Property Control Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory property and inspect impounded vehicles for damage; document information on an impound card.
  • Escort wreckers to storage lot and ensure vehicles reach assigned parking locations.
  • Escort wreckers, customers retrieving vehicles, attorneys, and insurance representatives on lot; locate vehicles and list all property removed from vehicle; ensure release of correct vehicle.
  • Prepare and move unclaimed vehicles to designated auction areas for public online auction.
  • Maintain facility grounds.
  • Provide upkeep and care of City vehicles.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

Due to CJIS requirements, the following will result in disqualification: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift and auto-impound experience.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Experience working with property inventory and inspection.
  • Bilingual (Spanish).

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Depending on assignment, this role may require:

  • Touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, and workspace restrictions.

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Schedule

  • Required to work 2nd (2 p.m.–10 p.m.) or 3rd (10 p.m.–6 a.m.) shift, weekends, and holidays.
  • May work outside in inclement weather as needed.
