Position Information Under the general supervision of the Administrative Operations Manager, the Property and Evidence Technician provides operational and administrative support to the Police Department, with primary responsibility for property and evidence control functions. The position is responsible for receiving, documenting, storing, tracking, releasing, transporting, retaining, and disposing of property and evidence in accordance with established procedures and legal requirements; maintaining accurate records and chain of custody documentation; and providing administrative support for routine departmental operations. The full salary range for the Property and Evidence Technician is $25.38 - $35.97 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $30.13 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Requirements Educational Requirements Degree High school diploma. Requirement Required Degree Postsecondary education in criminal justice, business administration, public administration, or a related field. Requirement Preferred Experience Requirements Experience Experience maintaining accurate records and working with detailed procedures, confidential information, and time-sensitive transactions. Requirement Required Experience Two years of related administrative, records, property control, evidence control, law enforcement support, or other directly related experience. Requirement Experience Experience handling property and evidence in a law enforcement or public safety environment. Requirement Experience Experience using a law enforcement Computer Aided Dispatch/Records Management System (CAD/RMS) or other records management database. Requirement Minimum Requirements Ability to maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation with a high degree of attention to detail.Ability to follow established procedures related to receiving, storing, tracking, releasing, and disposing of property and evidence.Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments in a busy office environment with deadlines and interruptions.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to interact professionally and effectively with department personnel, outside agencies, and members of the public.Ability to use standard office software and database systems.Ability to work independently within established guidelines and exercise sound judgment in routine matters.Ability to learn applicable laws, regulations, and departmental procedures related to property and evidence control. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of property and evidence handling practices in a law enforcement setting.Working knowledge of chain of custody requirements and records retention practices.Working knowledge of the criminal justice process as it relates to evidence handling and release.Knowledge of the reporting requirements and crime categories of the Jeanne Clery Act.
