Property Accounting Manager

We are looking for an experienced Property Accounting Manager to support a commercial real estate organization on a project or interim basis. This role will lead the review of core property accounting activities, strengthen coordination with an external property management partner, and help improve the accuracy of billing, recoveries, and financial oversight.

Responsibilities

• Direct and monitor property accounting work handled by an external management firm to ensure accurate execution and timely delivery.
• Strengthen tenant recovery and billing practices by reviewing setups, validating charges, and resolving discrepancies.
• Examine lease abstract information within the lease administration system and confirm that key financial terms are recorded correctly.
• Lead the preparation, review, and refinement of annual property budgets using MRI software.
• Collaborate with corporate finance, asset management, and outside partners to improve reporting quality and streamline accounting processes.
• Support month-end accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger review related to assigned properties.
• Analyze financial results and identify issues affecting recoveries, operating expenses, or budget performance, then recommend corrective action.
• Serve as a central point of contact between internal leadership and third-party property management teams on accounting matters.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in commercial real estate or property accounting, including oversight of property-level financial activity.
• Advanced proficiency with MRI software, particularly in budgeting, tenant setup, recoveries, and issue resolution.
• Demonstrated success working with third-party property managers, ownership groups, or investor stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of month-end close, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and journal entry preparation.
• High-level Excel skills with the ability to analyze data, identify exceptions, and support financial decision-making.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Clear and proactive communication skills with a well-organized, results-focused approach.
