Job Overview
The Project Superintendent is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all shipboard activities necessary for successful project delivery, including those of TSS employees and subcontractors, making adjustments as required. The Superintendent keeps the Project Manager apprised of all activities and any events potentially impacting the project’s timely completion. The Superintendent maintains records of daily activities, communications, issues, and activities projected to occur in the coming days and weeks.
Responsibilities
- Shipboard Supervision: Provide daily leadership and direction for all on-site project personnel, ensuring work is performed by the approved procedures. Maintain lines of communication with the customer contact to confirm activities are fully coordinated. Monitor overtime, attendance, and daily meetings while setting clear expectations for performance.
- Project Management: Responsible for ensuring project maintains schedule, adjusting as necessary and tracking daily, weekly, monthly goals.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed records of daily activities, weather conditions, personnel on site, issues and communications. Maintain an ongoing project manual to include drawings, the current project schedule, QA records, customer signoffs and daily reports. Provide Project Manager with regular updates on progress and any potential disruptions to the project schedule.
- Problem Solving: Monitor crew activities, equipment operations and adjacent shipboard operations. Work with the Project Manager to address and resolve any situation that hinders TSS’s production, including interfacing with Customers, Vendor and Management.
- Safety: Ensure all employees, contractors and visitors observe all TSS and customer safety requirements, utilize all prescribed PPE and understand emergency procedures.
- Inventory Management: Monitor on-site inventory of consumables and inform the Project Manager when replenishment is required.

Pay Range
$85,000.00 - $125,000.00 Annual Salary Exempt. Starting pay is determined based on relevant experience, education, technical qualifications, certifications, skills, and other job-related factors. Placement within the range reflects the candidate's overall qualifications, with the top of the range generally reserved for individuals whose experience and credentials substantially exceed the position's minimum requirements.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively supervise and coordinate teams in technical or trade environments.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret MS Project schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Knowledge on Excel and MS Project is strongly preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address and resolve issues as they arise.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety practices and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment; familiarity with maritime industry safety regulations preferred.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with team members and the Project Manager.
- Demonstrated adaptability and willingness to take on flexible roles in a small-company environment, including handling responsibilities that span multiple functions.
- Ability to gain and maintain access to government-controlled facilities, obtain a DBIDS credential, secure necessary security clearances, and maintain a valid U.S. Driver’s License and U.S. Passport.
- Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, including a criminal background check.
- Must be able to present proof of "U.S. Person" status as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR): a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical certification or associate degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and stand for long periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Physical Capabilities for Shipyard Operations: The role demands the ability to navigate diverse and challenging environments on naval vessels during the various project phases. This includes: - Climbing ladders and navigating stairs, reaching overhead, kneeling, crouching, and walking on uneven or slippery surfaces. Exposure to noise, vibration, and variable weather environments.
- May sometimes require accessing work areas at heights, in confined spaces and maneuvering through tight, restricted areas to assess progress and ensure safety standards.
Travel and Other Requirements
Frequent travel is required, including international travel, to supervise operations at various remote work sites. The Site Supervisor must be able to adapt to these conditions to monitor and support the successful execution of on-site operations while maintaining a commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
