About the role

The Project Superintendent is responsible for day-to-day site leadership, overseeing all field activities from framing through finishes and punch list. This role is primarily on-site and requires a deep understanding of the construction process, proven leadership with trades and subcontractors, and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site construction activities from mobilization through final punch list and closeout.
  • Coordinate and direct subcontractors and vendors on a daily basis, ensuring work is sequenced correctly and completed to specification.
  • Maintain and update the project schedule, working with Project Managers to plan look-ahead milestones and critical path tasks.
  • Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, quality, safety, and cleanliness; document issues and drive timely resolution.
  • Enforce high standards of craftsmanship and detail, particularly on high-end finishes, millwork, built-ins, and specialty installations.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and shop drawings; identify conflicts and field issues, and work with the design team to resolve them.
  • Lead jobsite meetings and toolbox talks as needed; communicate clearly with owners, architects, designers, engineers, and inspectors.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies; maintain a safe, organized jobsite at all times.
  • Oversee field documentation: daily reports, photos, RFIs initiated from the field, site instructions, and punch lists.
  • Support Project Managers with accurate field information related to schedule, manpower, changes in scope, and site conditions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in construction, with at least 3+ years as a Project Superintendent or primary field leader on complex projects.
  • Experience leading high-end construction work, ideally in one or more of:
    • Luxury residential homes and estates.
    • Hospitality projects (boutique hotels, inns, restaurants).
    • High-end retail or commercial interiors.
  • A thorough understanding of the construction process from framing and rough-in through insulation, drywall, finishes, and final punch list.
  • A proven track record of leadership among trades and subcontractors, including scheduling crews, setting expectations, and holding teams accountable.
  • A demonstrated commitment to craftsmanship and detail, with the ability to enforce the highest standards of quality in the field.
  • The ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Strong communication skills with owners, design teams, inspectors, and internal project staff.
  • A solid working knowledge of jobsite safety practices and regulations.
  • The ability to be physically present on jobsites on a full-time basis.

Preferred qualifications

  • Direct experience on projects with complex detailing, high-end finishes, and demanding clients.
  • A background in high-end residential or hospitality work in the Hudson Valley, NYC, New England, or similar markets.
  • Experience using construction management software, digital plan sets, and mobile site documentation tools.
  • Familiarity with AIA contracts and typical RFI, submittal, and change order processes.

Work location, schedule, and flexibility

Primary work location: Millerton, NY and surrounding project sites.
Typical schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, with additional hours as needed to meet schedule and project demands.
This is an on-site role, not hybrid; daily presence on the jobsite is expected during active construction.
Housing: Local housing can be provided during the week for candidates commuting from NYC, Westchester, Northern NJ, or other regions who do not wish to relocate full-time.
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during critical phases, with scheduling coordinated in advance.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience and responsibility, with additional consideration for candidates who have successfully led complex, high-end residential, hospitality, or retail projects as primary superintendent.
