Project Scientist / Ecological Risk Assessor

Responsibilities

• Manage project budgets and meet client budget needs.
• Coordinate and oversee field investigation efforts, including field support staff.
• Work with Principals and other senior professionals to scope, cost, plan, and execute ecological remedial investigation and risk evaluation services.
• Produce client-ready deliverables with minimal supervision.
• Train and mentor junior staff on technical requirements, regulatory programs, writing skills, and verbal communications.
• Provide training and mentoring opportunities for junior staff.
• Manage junior staff and schedules.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Applied Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Chemistry, or similar field.
• 5+ years of environmental consulting experience.
• Strong project management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with effective verbal communications at all levels.
• Experience with the following:
  • Terrestrial and aquatic habitat assessment.
  • Benthic invertebrate inventory.
  • Ecological sampling workplan design.
  • Bioassay and bioaccumulation/tissue studies.
  • Bioavailability studies.
  • Dietary exposure modeling.
  • Ecological risk screening analysis.
  • Statistical analysis using USEPA ProUCL.
  • Data visualization using geospatial software.
  • Data management using Environmental Quality Information System (EQuiS).
  • Ecological remedial investigation and risk assessment reporting.
• Understanding of USEPA and NJDEP ecological risk assessment protocols.

Work Environment

This position works in both the field and office environments.

• Field: Work independently or lead a team at exterior project sites (e.g., industrial/brownfield facilities, monitoring wells, treatment systems, construction projects) to perform sample collection, record operational/meter parameters, and oversee subcontractors (e.g., drillers, heavy equipment operators, truckers). Field activities require:
  • Ability to drive to different project sites.
  • Physical mobility to move around outdoors in various terrains and adverse weather conditions, occasionally for extended or irregular hours.
  • Use of hand-held monitoring instruments, tools, and water sampling equipment, requiring the ability to routinely lift and carry objects, stand, walk, reach, bend, squat, kneel, and twist.
• Office: Primarily stationary/sedentary work using a computer and keyboard/mouse, requiring repetitive hand movements.

Pay

Base salary range: $81,000 - $100,000. This range reflects Roux’s good-faith estimate for this position and geographic location. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications, skill sets, and internal equity. Eligible for performance bonuses based on individual job performance and firm profitability.
