Project Scientist
General Responsibilities
- Carry out environmental site investigations, assessments, and surveys to sample, measure, and analyze air, water, materials, and soil.
- Evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies and designs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Create and submit applicable permit applications, risk assessments, and technical documents such as proposals, reports, and regulatory agency correspondence.
- Design systems and environmental protection plans.
- Conduct projects including Phase I/II environmental site assessments, ecological and natural resource field surveys, tank closure assessments, asbestos abatement, storm water management, and site planning and permitting.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
- Adhere to safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.
- Participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain and improve project quality through continuous monitoring and promotion of quality standards and practices.
- Promote consistent quality standards on projects and proposals.
- Lead and mentor teams in medium-sized projects.
- Perform scientific analyses on projects within your discipline.
- Attend and participate in on-site and off-site client meetings.
- Direct and supervise field staff to sample, test, and collect data and/or document site activities.
- Develop and review proposals for clients, including quality control reviews of proposals written by others.
- Analyze complex laboratory and field data and compile it in written reports.
- Begin the mentoring and application process for Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer certification.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related science field with a minimum of 7 years of related experience, or a minimum of 11 years of related experience without a degree.
- A Master’s degree or PhD in Environmental Science or a related field is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history may be required.
- Certification in the field of expertise is preferred.

The national environmental team at Terracon assists clients in addressing environmental challenges and moving projects forward responsibly.
