Project Safety Specialist
About the role
The Project Safety Specialist implements the RES Safety Management System (SMS) on wind, solar, substation, transmission, or energy storage projects in the US or Canada.
Responsibilities
- Promotes company safety culture through coaching, development, influence, and training.
- Acts as subject matter liaison for health and safety for the project team and client.
- Affords assistance in the development and maintenance of site-specific documentation, including the Site Safety Plan, Site Rules, Emergency Response Plans, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and Site Orientation.
- Delivers training on Safety Initiatives, Site Orientation, Work Procedures, Work Instructions, Safety Management System (SMS), and regulatory requirements.
- Participates in safety-related discussions at Plan of the Day (POD) Meetings, All Hands Meetings, Safety Committee Meetings, Staff Meetings, Kickoff/Preparatory, Tailgate Meetings, and Client/Owner Meetings.
- Inspects work areas to verify consistency with procedural, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Reinforces safe behaviors and identifies “at-risk” behaviors.
- Procures, distributes, and maintains safety-related materials and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the project.
- Conducts Incident Investigations to determine Root Cause and recommend appropriate Corrective Actions.
- Develops Incident Reports to support findings from Incident Investigations.
- Drives implementation of proposed Corrective Actions to completion.
- Facilitates the company Drug and Alcohol Testing procedures.
- Supports injury management.
- Supports emergency response efforts.
- Operates company vehicle safely to drive to various site locations.
- Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
- Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and Company Policies & Procedures.
- Supports implementation of Permit to Work processes.
- Supports the implementation of project safety incentive programs.
- Affords assistance in maintaining incident data and safety metrics to compile reports.
- Maintains monitoring of weather conditions and supports severe weather response.
- Performs ad hoc job-related duties/functions and projects to support the Project Safety Manager I/II, and/or HSQE Department.
Qualifications
- Highschool/GED is required.
- Associates degree in Environmental Health and Safety Related field or two years of equivalent work or military experience is required.
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Health and Safety Related field is preferred.
- Emergency Medical Technician certification is preferred.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification is preferred.
- CHST/CUSP/OHST/NCSO/CHSC certification is preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
- OSHA 510 certification is preferred.
- NFPA 70E/CSA Z462 certification is preferred.
- Less than 1 year of Energy/Utility Industry Safety experience is preferred.
- Less than 1 year of Construction Industry Safety experience is preferred.
- Ability to travel 75-100%.
- A valid drivers license is required.

Pay
Anticipated base salary range: $79,000 - $99,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
