Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the project-specific safety plan.
- Conduct regular job-site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
- Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and work with supervision to correct them immediately.
- Lead daily or weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analysis reviews.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, client requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, property damage, and injuries; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain project safety records, including inspections, training logs, incident reports, permits, and corrective action documentation.
- Support field crews with safe work planning for high-risk activities such as excavation, trenching, confined space, lifting operations, traffic control, heavy equipment, hot work, and utility work.
- Verify that subcontractors are following project safety requirements.
- Coordinate safety training, orientations, and certifications for employees and subcontractors.
- Monitor use of personal protective equipment and enforce jobsite safety standards.
- Assist project management with pre-task planning and risk mitigation.
- Participate in client safety meetings and represent the company in a professional manner.
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of safety experience in construction, utility construction, civil construction, or heavy infrastructure preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, construction safety practices, and jobsite hazard controls.
- Experience with excavation, underground utilities, water/wastewater, pipeline, or heavy civil work preferred.
- OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500, CHST, STS-C, or CSP preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in the field and interact effectively with crews, supervisors, subcontractors, clients, and inspectors.
- Proficient with safety reporting systems, Microsoft Office, and basic documentation tools.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk jobsites, climb ladders, access trenches or excavations, and work around heavy equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
