About the role

The Project Manager-Industrial Hygiene will coordinate staff and contractors to manage industrial hygiene projects; ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations; develop assessment strategies, implement monitoring evaluations, analyze workplace exposure hazard potentials, evaluate data and recommend actions to reduce airborne, material derived and other potential workplace hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for industrial hygiene service contracts
  • Conduct inspections for OSHA compliance
  • Conduct and/or oversee projects to evaluate and control employee and passenger exposure to hazardous materials, physical and biological agents
  • Maintain, train and upkeep of various Industrial Hygiene policies and procedures/databases such as; fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, emergency evacuation planning, SOS database management, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health or another related field. An advanced degree is preferred, but not required.
  • In addition to #1, five (5) years of experience as a project manager in industrial hygiene, occupational health or related field.
  • Working knowledge of industrial hygiene practices and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
  • Familiar with transportation terms and procedures and local, state, and federal rules and regulations governing occupational health and industrial hygiene.
  • Considerable knowledge of industrial hygiene practices, procedures, and local, state and federal rules and regulations governing occupational health and industrial hygiene.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Project management software use is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, customer service, and organization skills are a necessity.
  • Excellent project development and management as well as planning and scheduling skills with a clear understanding of methods and techniques.
  • Ability to manage time, multiple projects, and work in a fast-paced environment independently and maintain a high degree of accuracy, quality, and thoroughness.
  • Ability to train others, set priorities, develop work schedules, monitor progress towards goals, meet deadlines, track and document all project activities.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of engineering drawings, maps, specifications, and other documents and materials; and prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws, and regulations to project plans.
  • OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER and 8 hour refresher as needed.
  • DOT Hazmat Shipper Certification or obtain within 3 months.
  • FRA Roadway Worker Certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • State of Illinois Asbestos Building Inspector and Lead Risk Assessor (or obtain within 12 months of hire).
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, for extended periods of time.
  • Hearing/Visual acuity, far/near, depth perception, field of vision, color vision.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle.
  • Must be willing to travel within and outside of Metra’s 6-county region.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.
  • Must be available on-call 24-hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year, including weekends and holidays.

Pay

The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.
