U.S. Citizenship is required for this position. This role is based at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division in Virginia, the sole designer and builder of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines.

About the role

This is an UNPAID internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. HVN SkillBridge Internships provide real-world experience during the final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will train on meaningful projects, work closely with a mentor, and engage with senior company leadership.

Newport News Shipbuilding internship programs focus on placing transitioning military into roles that align with their current or previous military jobs, with potential for full-time employment upon completion.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage operational aspects of ongoing projects, serving as liaison between project management, planning, project teams, and line management.
• Review project and budget status, manage schedules, and prepare status reports.
• Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals.
• Develop mechanisms for monitoring project progress and intervening to resolve issues with project managers, line managers, and clients.

Requirements

• Must be active-duty military within the final 180 days of service (candidates can apply within the final 12 months of military service).
• Education and experience requirements depend on the Program of Instruction.
