Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage capital improvement projects by developing RFQs, acquiring proposals and quotes, creating timelines, and staying within budgets.
- Design and implement changes/modifications to production machines and tooling through creation and revision of technical drawings, specifying components, supervising fabrication, and subsequent installation and testing.
- Install and test new production machine designs, including concepts and tooling, and ensure the development of fully functioning machines.
- Support die casting and injection molding operations, including tooling and process troubleshooting.
- Support and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems in manufacturing operations.
- Design and develop mechanical components using CAD tools.
- Perform engineering calculations (stress, load, thermal) to support design decisions.
- Provide hands-on engineering assistance, instruction, and training to all levels of the company on set-up techniques, preventative maintenance, operation of production machines and tooling, and development of one-point lessons and work instructions.
- Perform dimensional inspection of prototypes, samples, product, tooling, and machine components to verify designs and changes, and provide written and verbal reports of results.
- Investigate manufacturing processes, components, methods, tooling that can improve company metrics, focusing on quality, reducing scrap, and increasing efficiencies, including interaction with equipment/tooling vendors.
- Create, review, and revise Process/Design FMEAs, control plans, and APQP documents for both new and existing processes.
- Travel to other locations within the company, vendors, customers, trade shows, and training as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 35+ years of engineering or project experience, with automotive experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, calculations, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience using CAD systems (preferably AutoCAD), spreadsheets, word documents, databases, and email programs (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
- Experience with injection molding and/or die casting.
- Vocational/Technical School/work experience related to machine shop practices.
- Strong analytical capabilities and mechanical aptitude.
- Experience with Process/Design FMEAs, control plans, and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).
- Possess a basic understanding of machine control systems such as safety devices, PLCs, HMIs, compressed air logic, and hydraulics.
- Minimum five years prior hands-on experience in a manufacturing plant as an engineer.
- Familiarity with TS 16949 & ISO 14001 Quality & Environmental Systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
