Project Manager - Water/Wastewater

About the role
Black & Veatch is a leading employee-owned global engineering, procurement, consulting, and construction company. This Project Manager position is a high-profile leadership role within our Water/Wastewater business, focusing on managing the successful delivery of multi-million-dollar water-related infrastructure projects in the Washington D.C. area. You will serve as part of the Water/Wastewater business leadership team and collaborate with our Governments & Communities sector, which specializes in infrastructure needs for municipalities, state and local governments, and federal agencies.
Our team is ranked in the top 10 by ENR for Water Design Firms in Water Supply, Sewer Waste, and other water-related categories. You will contribute to impactful projects such as the AWWA Cost Model Project and help modernize water infrastructure, optimize asset use, and meet performance goals while reducing costs and mitigating risk.
Responsibilities
- Business Development:
- Lead team efforts in marketing, strategy development, and prospect identification.
- Develop proposals, prepare client presentations, and handle project budgeting and contracting for successful opportunities.
- Accountable for new business objectives and overall project performance.
- Project Management:
- Engage with assigned clients, participate in client activities, and promote Black & Veatch through community involvement.
- Support the development of market business plans, strategies, and client engagement initiatives.
- Leverage internal resources to expand Black & Veatch’s market footprint.
- Project Execution:
- Oversee engineering manager(s) and set project performance goals.
- Ensure accountability for project implementation and active involvement with internal and client project teams.
- Perform or assist with commercial management of projects, including budgeting, invoicing, payments, and project performance reviews.
- Staff Management:
- Focus on team development, mentoring, and coaching for performance improvement.
- Recommend training, promotions, and identify new candidates to expand the team.
- Management Responsibilities:
- Act as a project manager, leading a project team that may vary by project.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years of active water/wastewater experience with demonstrated leadership in the DC market.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Understanding of budgets, financial metrics, and contract negotiation, including knowledge of terms, risks, pricing, and payment terms.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle records searches.
Work Environment
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be available after the first 90 days, based on manager discretion and job performance.
- Extended periods of sitting, standing, and computer usage.
- Ability to use video/audio conferencing tools for internal and external communication.
- Travel to client sites may be required.
Pay
Annual compensation range: $126,360 – $221,124.
