Project Manager - Transportation (North Texas Region)

About the Role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Transportation Project Manager to join our rapidly growing Transportation Practice in one of our North Texas offices (Dallas or Austin). The ideal candidate will design, manage, and lead roadway design teams for local and national projects, serving as a key part of a seller/doer team. You will oversee all aspects of projects, including business development, scope and fee development, staffing, design, quality management, and financial performance.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Burns & McDonnell’s safety programs, trainings, and policies, and promote and manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
• Serve as a project manager for transportation infrastructure projects for clients such as local, state, and federal governments, utilities, and planning organizations.
• Lead contract preparation and negotiation, coordination with regulatory agencies, project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and establishment of critical project objectives.
• Ensure revenue and project financial performance goals are met.
• Build and manage relationships with existing and new clients, customers, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
• Work with a multi-discipline team to design and manage roadway and site development projects, including geometric design, drainage, utility coordination, traffic control plans, and quality review.
• Develop cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve business development and financial performance targets.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and instruction to project teams and department staff.
• Prepare and present at client and industry events to build personal and company brand.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field from an accredited program.
• Minimum 7 years of related experience.
• Texas Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within six months.
• Past roadway design and project management experience for municipal and DOT clients.
• Client contacts with TxDOT and/or municipalities preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of transportation design guides, including the AASHTO Greenbook, Roadside Design Guide, and MUTCD.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment and work overtime on short notice.
• Ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplined project team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
