About the Role
The Project Manager at Irby Construction Company is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating high-voltage transmission and distribution projects, overseeing multiple crews, and ensuring safe, high-quality, and cost-effective project delivery. This role requires a minimum of 3 years of powerline construction experience, in-depth knowledge of OSHA codes and standards, and the ability to manage all aspects of project execution from pre-construction through closeout.
Responsibilities
- Pre-Construction Planning: Attend pre-construction meetings, review bid packages, provide technical assistance, and assist in developing construction schedules and plans.
- Project Planning & Management: Oversee budget projections, ensure project expenditure remains within established budgets, develop and update project schedules, and prepare billing packages.
- Construction Execution: Review and become familiar with multiple contracts, ensure compliance with specifications, account for quality of work and safety performance, and visit crews to monitor safety, quality, and production.
- Contract Administration: Prepare, review, and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of working documents, generate and review daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports, and present project updates to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Communication & Issue Resolution: Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, lead meetings to resolve work procedures, complaints, or construction problems, and interpret and explain plans and contract terms to staff, workers, and clients.
- Material & Quality Management: Develop and oversee project material trackers, monitor inventories, production, shortages, and damages, and ensure productivity, efficient use of materials/equipment, and contractual performance.
- Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and guide associate project managers and coordinators, foster a collaborative and performance-oriented team environment, and lead daily, weekly, and monthly meetings.
- General Duties: Accountable for cost, progress, and schedule for the duration of the project, assist business unit with monthly forecasts, ensure compliance with safety programs, and review all accidents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Construction Science/Management, Engineering, or equivalent field is preferred, but equivalent work experience will be considered.
- PMP Certification is a plus.
- Skilled with project management software (Excel, P6, MS Project, EcoSys, etc.).
- Strong organizational, analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and prioritize assignments.
- Management and supervision skills.
- High sense of integrity and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours as required.
- Knowledge of applicable municipal, state, and federal legislation is an asset.
