Project Manager, Technical Projects

This role is based in South Florida and is classified as “hybrid.” Employees work from a designated Carnival office Monday through Thursday and may work from home on Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

About the role

The Project Manager for Technical Projects plans, executes, and finalizes technical projects onboard the ship according to strict deadlines and within budget. Responsibilities include acquiring resources, coordinating team members and third-party contractors, and overseeing quality control throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires expertise in ship systems, technical engineering, and project management principles, with a focus on compliance with maritime regulations and safety standards. Key areas include ship technical systems and machinery, energy conservation, decarbonization initiatives, and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

• Define detailed project specifications, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with Technical Operations Managers, Technical Directors, and other stakeholders.
• Manage project schedules to ensure optimal performance, compliance, and efficiency, including planning new system commissioning and training before handover.
• Estimate resources and participants needed to achieve project goals; draft and submit CAPEX budget proposals, recommending changes as necessary.
• Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones; track deliverables and provide progress reports, documentation, and presentations.
• Communicate project expectations to team members, Technical Operations Managers, Technical Directors, and other stakeholders; manage ongoing stakeholder expectations.
• Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and devise contingency plans.
• Conduct project post-mortems, create recommendation reports, and develop best practices for project execution and management.
• Ensure all projects adhere to international maritime regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines; conduct risk assessments and impact analyses.
• Familiarize contractors with company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
• 7+ years of experience in the maritime industry with increasing responsibility and leadership roles.
• Strong technical and analytical skills for proper equipment selection, implementation, and operation.
• Leadership and management ability to plan and execute 2+ projects simultaneously.
• Strong time management skills to keep projects moving forward.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with multiple parties.
• Knowledgeable in maritime regulatory frameworks, rules, and guidelines related to air lubrication, marine systems, and hull structure.
• Ability to work in a constantly changing environment and self-direct work.

Schedule

• 25-50% travel, including shipboard assignments.
• Hybrid work arrangement: in-office Monday through Thursday in South Florida; remote work on Fridays.
