Description
@Orchard LLC is seeking an experienced Scientific Project Manager to support data and cyber activities for a NOAA National Ocean Service (NOS) program. The ideal candidate will have experience leading projects involving technologies such as data & database management systems, mapping software, and/or cybersecurity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead recurring team meetings, manage agendas, and ensure clear communication across the support staff.
- Direct all project workflows using management tools (GitHub/Google Drive).
- Set milestones, manage project boards, and ensure tasks are tracked from start to finish.
- Monitor budgets, report financial risks to leadership, and provide annual funding recommendations.
- Create and maintain internal project materials and public-facing user guides to ensure all processes are transparent.
- Schedule and lead monthly technical webinars.
- Develop training materials and tutorials based on user needs to improve data tool adoption.
- Facilitate technical support by capturing bugs, testing solutions, and coordinating resolutions with the development team.
- Act as a liaison to the community by providing updates on social media platforms and formal presentations.
- Refined data standards to streamline workflows.
- Identify strategies for standardizing various types of biological and environmental observations.
- Conduct certification reviews to ensure partners comply with organizational data management requirements.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a scientific or engineering field (Oceanography, Marine Science, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or similar).
- 3-5 years of professional experience in project management and team leadership.
- Proven ability to manage requirements and workflows using GitHub and Google Workspace.
- Experience with data principles and standardizing scientific data (e.g., metadata and file formats).
- Experience in coordinating professional science activities or science projects.
- Familiarity with NOAA programs is required.
- Prefer experience supporting mapping, marine science and environmental data collection projects.
- Proficiency with open-source tools such as Python, R, and GitHub.
