This opportunity is ideal for a well-rounded, driven Project Manager with a focus on energy storage. The role requires an individual who thrives in engineering, business development, and project management—a "seller-doer" with strong technical and interpersonal skills. The Energy Storage team concentrates on renewable power generation and storage in both utility-scale and commercial/industrial markets, offering diverse design and project execution experiences. Projects range from initial battery sizing, use case evaluation, and technology selection to full detailed design. Current projects vary in size from 1MW to 400MW, with interconnection voltages from 480V to 500kV, and include both standalone storage and hybrid systems with wind and solar.

Responsibilities

• Lead proposal efforts for energy storage Owner’s Engineering proposals.
• Develop scope, schedule, and budget for proposal efforts; negotiate refinements with clients upon award.
• Coordinate with permitting authorities, customers, and design leads to deliver customer solutions within project standards.
• Coordinate a multi-disciplined engineering team to complete required tasks.
• Set and maintain project schedules; monitor and manage the team to meet deadlines.
• Set and maintain project budgets; develop Change Order documents as needed.
• Serve as the primary interface between the client and technical team.
• Multi-task across several projects simultaneously.
• Coordinate with discipline leads to drive site plans, energy storage technology, building plans, one-line drawings, BOP plans, substation plans, and other conceptual engineering documents.
• Manage approved bidders lists, prepare requests for proposal, oversee bid tabulation, and evaluate total installed costs for procurements.
• Provide streamlined project information and detailed bills of material to estimating teams.
• Drive efficiency in bid efforts using software and tools to improve conceptual design and estimating processes.
• Maintain current knowledge of emerging energy storage technologies, including pricing and commercial terms.
• Participate in industry conferences and publications to expand Burns & McDonnell’s presence in the renewable energy market, including developing white papers and conference presentations.
• Conduct project status meetings with clients as required.
• Travel to client offices and project sites as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, chemical, or mechanical preferred) or a related field from an accredited curriculum.
• Minimum of 7 years of related experience, including 3 or more years managing engineering projects.
• Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
• Project development, project management, or renewable energy experience is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies in the dynamic renewable energy market.
• Willingness and ability to use IT to streamline work processes.
• Experience with estimating or designing energy storage systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of energy storage systems and construction practices is preferred.
• Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously, often within aggressive and compressed schedules.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project schedules and achieving target due dates.

Pay

$140,000.00 - $460,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on factors including individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.

Schedule

Full-time. Travel is required, up to 50% of the time.
