Project Manager - Healthcare + Education + Civic Engineering

About the Role
The Senior Project Manager leads and manages all phases of complex civil engineering projects, ensuring successful delivery from design through construction. This role oversees project teams, maintains client relationships, and ensures projects meet technical, schedule, and budget goals while contributing to business development, risk management, and mentorship of junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of civil engineering projects from concept through construction administration.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams, driving alignment on project goals, timelines, and budgets.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships by providing exceptional service, managing expectations, and ensuring project satisfaction; identify opportunities for repeat business and referrals.
- Oversee and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration and clear communication among design staff, subconsultants, and other team members.
- Direct and support the design of civil engineering systems, including site plans, utility plans, stormwater management, grading, and infrastructure layouts; ensure designs meet technical, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Develop, manage, and track project budgets and schedules; allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines and address potential issues proactively.
- Lead permitting efforts, working with local agencies to ensure timely approvals and compliance with regulations; address agency comments and facilitate site permitting.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, resolving technical or design challenges promptly.
- Ensure quality of all project deliverables through regular reviews of design documents, construction drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Manage relationships with external subconsultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure their deliverables meet project requirements and timelines.
- Contribute to business development by identifying project opportunities, drafting proposals, and participating in client presentations.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities, including planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance appraisals; and addressing staff concerns.
- Provide mentorship to junior project managers, engineers, and staff to develop their technical and project management skills.
- Prepare and present project updates, including progress reports, budget status, and risk assessments; maintain accurate project documentation.
- Lead efforts to improve project management processes and workflows; advocate for innovative tools and technologies to enhance project delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field (required).
- Engineer-in-Training (EI) certification (required); Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward obtaining PE (strongly preferred).
- Minimum of 8+ years of civil site design experience and 4+ years of experience as a Project Manager.
- Expertise in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and other relevant project management and design software.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles, construction methods, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, including budgets, schedules, and resources.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams, manage client relationships, and drive project success.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills; ability to resolve complex technical and project management challenges.
- Experience identifying new business opportunities, preparing proposals, and building long-term client relationships.
Work Environment + Physical Demands
- Primarily office-based with limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
- Frequent use of fingers for typing, picking, pinching, and grasping; repetitive motion required.
- Visual acuity for computer work; ability to talk, hear, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to carry, lift, and push/pull up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
