Project Manager for New-Com
About the role
The Project Manager for New-Com, Inc. is accountable for the successful completion of assigned public-sector projects, working directly with project teams to lead commercial building construction for municipal, county, airport, and state agencies. This position requires strong leadership, knowledge of public contracting procedures, and the ability to manage all phases of the project from procurement through close-out while ensuring full compliance with contract documents, schedule, and budget.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a proven ability to manage $1M–$50M commercial projects in the public works environment.
- Possess a strong understanding of public contracting requirements, including bid forms, prevailing wage, certified payroll, DBE/SMWBE participation, submittal reviews, and change management per contract terms.
- Lead all project documentation from job start to close-out, including but not limited to: financial forecasting, value engineering, project/scope changes, permits, invoicing, contracts, pay applications, submittals, as-built drawings, and O&M manuals.
- Cook up close with public owners, inspectors, and design consultants, ensuring proactive communication and accurate documentation.
- Build and interpret project schedules, cost projections, and cash flow reports.
- Identify constructability issues early and provide practical field-driven solutions.
- Manage subcontracts and purchase orders for clear scope alignment and compliance with contract documents.
- Initiate RFIs, submittals, and documentation in accordance with agency standards (e.g., Procore, eBuilder, or similar).
- Maintain strict compliance with safety, environmental, and permitting requirements.
- Mentor and develop project engineering staff members in conjunction with project management duties.
- Communicate project status, goals, and parameters with executive management, administrative support, and field teams.
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience in public-sector commercial building construction, including but not limited to schools, civic buildings, fire/police facilities, and airport tenant improvements.
- Strong understanding of Division 00/01 contract documents, public procurement laws, and reporting procedures.
- 7+ years of field experience and/or project management experience on public projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Primavera, or similar public-agency project management tools preferred.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure.
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with an emphasis on integrity and collaboration.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience: 7+ years of field experience and/or project management experience on public projects.
Skills
- Strong understanding of public contracting procedures.
