About the role
Deputy Project Manager for transportation projects within the Project Management Unit, responsible for delivering low to moderate complexity projects on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, and risk for projects.
- Assist senior project staff with daily activities on complex projects.
- Support oversight of private engineering firms.
- Ensure quality of project deliverables.
- Develop reports to track project progress and budgets.
- Collaborate with teams, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary groups to address project needs and challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, with three years of experience or equivalent combination.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, highway design, and project delivery processes.
- Experience in project planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with professional engineering contracts, scoping, estimating, and negotiating.
- Strong skills in setting priorities, developing work schedules, and monitoring progress.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex engineering concepts to diverse audiences.
- Optional: Professional engineering registration (PE) in North Carolina.
