Project Manager

About the role

The Project Manager is the primary owner of assigned telecommunications projects from award through closeout. This role manages the customer relationship, secures purchase orders, coordinates joint-use and right-of-way permits, and coordinates with construction management whenever field work is required. Success is measured by on-time delivery, clean permit and documentation packages, accurate commercial closeout, and customer experience that leads to repeat work.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the single point of contact for assigned customers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Build and maintain trusted working relationships with customer project managers, engineers, and procurement teams.
• Obtain purchase orders (POs) and confirm that scope, pricing, terms, and billing milestones match the approved proposal.
• Track change orders, extra work, and scope adjustments; document them and secure customer authorization before work proceeds.
• Lead project kickoff, status, and closeout meetings; provide clear written updates on schedule, permits, risks, and billing.
• Resolve customer issues promptly and escalate internally when schedule, cost, or quality is at risk.
• Assist in identifying all required joint-use (pole attachment) and right-of-way (ROW) permits at project start.
• Coordinate/oversee joint use submissions to pole owners (typically electric utilities and other ILECs/CLECs), including make-ready estimates when applicable.
• Coordinate/oversee municipal, county, state DOT, railroad, and private-easement ROW permits as required by the route.
• Track application status, comments, and conditions of approval; keep the project schedule current as permit dates shift.
• Coordinate with team members to ensure attachments and construction comply with NESC, owner standards, and permit conditions before and during build.
• Maintain a complete project file (applications, approvals, drawings, expiration dates, and closeout packages).
• Partner with the Construction Manager on any job that includes field construction, make-ready, aerial or underground build, splicing, or restoration.
• Hand off a complete construction package: approved drawings, permit conditions, access notes, customer requirements, and safety constraints.
• Support punch-list closeout, as-built collection, and restoration so the job can be billed and accepted.
• Build and maintain project schedules, risk logs, and action trackers.
• Coordinate internally with engineering, OSP design, permitting, materials, construction, and billing.
• Monitor budget versus PO value; flag overruns early and drive recovery or change-order action.
• Ensure as-builts, redlines, test results, and customer acceptance documents are complete at closeout.
• Follow company safety, quality, and documentation standards on every assignment.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of project management experience in telecommunications, OSP/fiber, wireless backhaul, utility construction, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience obtaining or managing joint-use / pole-attachment and right-of-way permits.
• Proven ability to manage customer relationships and secure or administer purchase orders.
• Comfort coordinating with construction managers on active builds.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to run customer meetings and produce clear status reporting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and the ability to learn project, GIS, and permitting systems.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites, municipalities, and job locations as needed.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), middle-mile, CLEC/ILEC, or wireless transport projects.
• Familiarity with NESC, typical utility pole-attachment processes, make-ready, and municipal ROW ordinances.
• PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management credential.
• Experience with common telecom tools such as ArcGIS, Google Earth, permit portals, and construction management platforms as well as ISP specific software (PRISM / Site Tracker).
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus in many service territories.

Work Environment

This position may be based locally or performed remotely, depending on project assignment and candidate location. A mix of office/remote work and periodic field or customer-site visits should be expected. Hours generally follow a standard business schedule, with occasional early, evening, or weekend work around permit hearings, outages, or construction windows. Must be able to manage multiple projects at different stages of design, permitting, construction, and closeout.

Compensation

Starting salary is $80,000, with final offer depending on experience (DOE).
