About the role

Global South International strengthens institutions and creates sustainable, locally driven solutions across the Global South through strategic partnerships. Communities across the Global South face deeply interconnected crises—including systemic poverty, climate vulnerability, weak institutional capacity, and limited access to healthcare, education, and clean water. Traditional development interventions frequently fail because they treat these complex challenges as isolated, single-domain problems rather than addressing their deep structural interdependencies. Furthermore, unequal access to financial capital, modern technology, and equitable trade barriers keeps local populations trapped in cycles of economic instability, limiting their ability to build long-term, self-sustaining resilience.

Global South International breaks this cycle by deploying an integrated, multi-stakeholder framework that builds resilient institutions and scalable, locally owned infrastructure. Anchored by seven core strategic pillars—ranging from healthcare, education, and water access to economic diplomacy, agriculture, and climate action—the initiative unites governments, academic institutions, private partners, and local leaders to co-create long-term solutions. By combining rigorous research, policy advocacy, capacity building, and evidence-based implementation, Global South International transitions communities away from fragmented aid dependency and toward lasting, self-directed prosperity across the Global South.

As a Project Consultant, you will serve as a strategic advisor, technical expert, and thought partner, providing specialized expertise to support the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and scaling of GSI programs, partnerships, and organizational initiatives. Unlike project delivery roles focused on operational execution, the Project Consultant provides high-level strategic guidance, technical insight, policy analysis, and systems-thinking approaches that strengthen organizational impact across all GSI strategic pillars.

Responsibilities

  • Big-picture advising — Help leadership think through project design, strategy, and long-term planning. Spot risks and opportunities early.
  • Subject-matter expertise — Review proposals and work plans in your area of specialty; suggest ways to make them stronger or more sustainable.
  • Policy support — Track relevant policy/regulatory trends and help shape position papers or advocacy positions.
  • Funding & finance guidance — Advise on how projects get financed (impact investing, blended finance, PPPs) and help make them "investment-ready."
  • Evaluation — Run assessments and reviews, then turn findings into practical recommendations. Help track whether programs are actually working.
  • SDG/impact framing — Make sure projects tie back to the UN SDGs and have clear ways to measure success.
  • Relationship building — Represent the org in meetings with governments, partners, funders, and academic institutions.
  • Research & thought leadership — Write briefs/reports, speak at events, contribute expertise to the field.
  • Capacity building — Mentor staff, help improve internal tools and processes.

Schedule

Volunteer 10+ hours per week for 6+ months remotely.
