About the role

Vertex is seeking a Project Engineer/Scientist or Assistant Project Manager to execute environmental assessment and remediation projects for top-tier clients in California. The Project Manager will assist their assigned Managing Consultant with execution of assigned tasks, production of on-time and high-quality work product, and management or coordination with other team members as assigned or requested. The role supports the success of the entire assigned practice area/practice division as the highest priority.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and manage environmental site assessments including subsurface investigations of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.
• Plan and execute environmental remediation projects, including soil excavation and treatment, groundwater remediation, and vapor intrusion pathway mitigation.
• Provide oversight to field staff and subcontractors conducting site investigation and remediation projects.
• Ensure that project deliverables, milestones, and budgets are met.
• Work closely with senior managers in the coordination of work activities to meet milestones, budgetary limits, deadlines, or other performance indicators.
• Prepare, review, and submit final reports in accordance with regulations, applicable guidance and policies, and internal quality control standards.
• Effectively coordinate with other team members as requested or assigned, provide guidance, and monitor progress on assigned tasks or projects.
• Ensure work product produced by self or other assigned team members is consistently high quality.
• Meet or exceed defined individual average utilization goals as set forth by company leadership.
• Coordinate and support other team members as assigned in a “lead by example” manner, with emphasis on positivity and a culture that is empowered to execute.
• Travel, as necessary to support client, employee, and leadership needs.
• Support individual and any assigned team members' quality control of service delivery, maintaining an excellent reputation of quality.
• Provide guidance to project team members in a manner that assists with rapid identification and escalation to Managing Consultant of any client, team member, or operational challenges.
• Be aware of and work in a manner that supports the organization’s vision and defined business objectives.
• Conduct self and collaborate with others in working toward achievement of defined profit objectives of assigned projects.
• Cooperate in construction of strong cross-functional teams to achieve success in shared goals.
• Complete daily tasks consistently.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering and 4 years of related experience, a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience, or 8 years of related experience and no degree.
• Experience with assessment, remediation, and compliance as well as other relevant regulatory programs for the region.
• Successful track record in managing multi-faceted environmental projects with multiple services and accelerated schedules.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); working knowledge of Office 365 applications preferred.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proven track record of independent work product production, project management, communication, and coordination with other team members.
• Demonstrated management skills.

Qualifications

Candidates with the following qualifications will be prioritized:

• Licensed Geologist, Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training (EIT) in California; or successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and on track to take the PE exam.
• Master’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related environmental field.
• Experience conducting Property Condition Assessments (PCAs).
• AHERA (Asbestos) certifications, preferred.

Pay

The salary ranges for this role are as follows:

• $86,000 - $234,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier AA - Sample Locations: NY Metro, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle).
• $79,000 - $216,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier A - Sample Locations: Irvine CA, Middlesex NJ, Tacoma WA, Boston, Alexandria).

Schedule

Candidate will work on a hybrid/remote schedule based in either our Irvine office, or remotely.
