About the role

The Project Manager will direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of plant site projects within assigned responsibility, personally or through Imerys employees and contractors.

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the role includes:

  • Management of all capital and miscellaneous projects with a typical annual budget of $2–3 million
  • Oversight of an average of 20 CapEx projects per year
  • Assurance of project-related activities and personnel management to align with plant safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards

Responsibilities

  • Maintain financial control of the annual CapEx project budget; prepare and control expenditures and receipts using SAP financial software
  • Plan engineering projects and organize resources and staff according to project requirements
  • Instigate and direct technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications, and technical plans
  • Supervise project installation, including commissioning
  • Review project design and scheduling for compliance with engineering principles, local and company standards, contract requirements, and related specifications
  • Direct integration of technical activities, resolve conflicts, and review technical developments during project implementation and commissioning
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
  • Prepare interim and completion project reports; maintain all site drawings and documentation
  • Conduct tests and field investigations to obtain data for environmental personnel in determining pollutant sources and control methods
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget

Physical demands include the ability to climb stairs (up to 9 floors), work at height and in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year university
  • 8–10 years of related experience and technical training, preferably in heavy industrial fully automated process plants
  • High level of AutoCAD experience to develop drawings supporting project documents (e.g., production equipment layouts, process flow diagrams, building additions, property site layout)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret MSHA regulations, technical procedures, equipment specifications, Federal/State Air and Stormwater Permit regulations, engineering drawings, and International Building/Fire/Mechanical Codes
  • Proficiency in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to present technical information and respond to questions from managers and outside companies
  • Competence with mathematical, statistical, and advanced engineering concepts (e.g., structural, hydraulics, mechanical, electrical power distribution)
  • Strong problem-solving skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Proficient with personal computer and Google platform

Workplace experience in cement production, mining processes, and industrial process equipment (e.g., conveyors, scalping screens, crushers, weigh feeders, ball mills, dust collectors, storage silos, packaging systems) is required.

Minimal supervision; must be a self-starter and coordinate detailed guidelines for outside contractors and Imerys employees.
