Project Manager

Hours: Full-time – 35 hours per week
Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101

All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. Original documents proving citizenship or legal right to work in the U.S. are required. The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is unable to support or sponsor any visa applications or extensions. Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution; foreign credentials require independent equivalency verification.

About the Role

The Project Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate construction projects within the Division of Public Buildings. The selected candidate will assist with a portfolio of capital design or construction projects across the five boroughs, serving as the key contact throughout scoping, design, and construction procurement phases. Responsibilities include ensuring projects meet DDC’s Commitment Plan objectives, maintaining schedules, managing budgets, and liaising between contractors, DDC, and sponsor agencies.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate construction projects at various stages of design and construction.
• Utilize agency technical resources to meet DDC’s Commitment Plan objectives and completion schedules.
• Apprise Senior Project Managers of scheduling, construction, and design issues.
• Keep project costs within budget.
• Liaise between contractors, DDC, and sponsor agencies.
• Maintain comprehensive project history files.
• Coordinate project schedules and review projects for compliance.
• Address construction and design issues.
• Prepare change orders, project correspondence, and reports.

Requirements

• A four-year high school diploma or equivalent, and five years of full-time experience managing/inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 annually for each of the five years; or
• One year of the above experience and a baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management from an accredited institution; or
• One year of the above experience and a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect; or
• A four-year high school diploma or equivalent, and a combination of at least two years of the above experience and relevant education totaling five years. Matriculation in an undergraduate degree program may substitute for experience (30 semester credits = 1 year, up to 3 years).
• Candidates must specify for each construction project: description, time period, type of work performed, and project budget.
• A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license is required at appointment and must be maintained for employment duration. Moving violations, license suspension, or accident records may disqualify candidates.

Assignment Levels

• Level II: One additional year of satisfactory full-time experience in Assignment Level I or equivalent.
• Level III: Two additional years of satisfactory full-time experience in Assignment Levels I and II or equivalent, and a valid New York State driver license.

Preferred Skills

• Ability to manage construction managers and complete multiple multi-trade projects on schedule.
• Strong computer, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Attention to detail.

Pay

$66,330.00 – $76,279.00 per year
