About the role
BRPH is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support our Manufacturing & Industrial market sector in our Charleston, South Carolina office. This role is focused on the successful management and delivery of complex, multidisciplinary architecture and engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Leads multidisciplinary architecture and engineering projects from pursuit and kickoff through design, permitting, construction administration, and closeout, with primary accountability for overall project performance.
- Serves as the primary client point of contact for assigned projects; manages expectations, communications, decisions, commitments, and overall client satisfaction.
- Develops and maintains project execution plans, scopes of work, responsibility matrices, work plans, staffing plans, deliverable schedules, and milestone strategies aligned with contractual requirements and client objectives.
- Owns project financial performance, including fee and labor budgets, burn-rate monitoring, percent-complete evaluation, cost-to-complete, revenue projections, profitability, and overall budget compliance.
- Prepares and maintains project forecasts and financial status reporting; identifies budget or performance variances early and develops corrective action plans with project and discipline leadership.
- Manages prime contract requirements and subconsultant agreements, including scope, deliverables, schedule obligations, invoicing, and team responsibilities.
- Led project change management by identifying scope growth and out-of-scope requests, evaluating schedule and fee impacts, preparing amendments/change orders, and obtaining appropriate authorization before additional work proceeds.
- Develops and manages project schedules, tracks critical milestones and dependencies, evaluates impacts to the baseline plan, and leads recovery planning when project performance deviates from the approved schedule.
- Captures and coordinates multidisciplinary project teams, including architecture, structural, civil, MEP, interiors, BIM/VDC, and specialty consultants, to establish clear responsibilities, interfaces, priorities, and deliverables.
- Plans and facilitates internal, client, and design coordination meetings; establishes agendas, documents decisions and action items, and drives timely closure of open issues.
- Proactively identifies and manages project risks and opportunities, including schedule, financial, contractual, staffing, technical coordination, and client-related risks; escalates significant issues when appropriate.
- Leads project quality management planning and implementation, including required QA/QC reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, deliverable readiness, and compliance with BRPH quality standards and contractual requirements.
- Coordinates closely with discipline leads and Engineers/Architects of Record to ensure technical decisions are made by the appropriate licensed professionals while maintaining overall project integration and delivery accountability.
- Manages subconsultant performance, including scope, fee, schedule, staffing, deliverable quality, invoicing, and resolution of performance issues.
- Leads and manages construction-phase services as applicable, including RFI and submittal response workflows, field observations, design clarifications, change coordination, closeout activities, and associated CA budget and schedule performance.
- Maintains regular communication with clients and BRPH leadership, including schedule, budget, forecast, staffing, risks, decisions, change management, and key action items.
- Supports proposal development and contract negotiations by preparing project scopes, schedules, staffing plans, fee estimates, subconsultant strategies, assumptions, and risk considerations.
- Understands and manages projects delivered through a variety of contractual and delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CMAR, and other collaborative delivery approaches.
- Plans project resources and forecasts workload in coordination with discipline and office leadership to support project commitments and efficient staff utilization across multiple concurrent projects.
- Provides leadership and mentorship to project teams, promotes accountability and collaboration, and establishes clear expectations for communication, schedule, quality, and performance.
- Visits project and construction sites as needed to understand field conditions, monitor progress, support constructability and coordination, and maintain alignment between design and construction activities.
- Is proficient with project-management tools such as Microsoft Excel, Project, Word, Bluebeam, and Newforma, Revit, Navisworks, and BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in architecture, engineering, or design/construction project delivery, including demonstrated responsibility managing multidisciplinary design projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing project scope, schedules, fee budgets, forecasting, contracts, change orders, quality, risk, multidisciplinary teams, and client communications.
- Experience managing complex Manufacturing & Industrial, aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or commercial/industrial projects is preferred.
- PMP Certification a plus.
- Professional licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in architecture, engineering, or design/construction project delivery, including demonstrated responsibility managing multidisciplinary design projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing project scope, schedules, fee budgets, forecasting, contracts, change orders, quality, risk, multidisciplinary teams, and client communications.

Physical Requirements
- The work is semi-sedentary work and requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Manual dexterity, hearing, mental acuity, typing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.
- Ability to navigate and move around the construction site, which may involve walking, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to stand and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed two hours consecutively.
- Ability to control behavior when encountering stressful situations or short deadlines and to maintain a high level of concentration.
- Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, and symbols that are legible and understood by others.
- Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
