About the role
The Project Specialist 2 serves as a Project Manager overseeing all day-to-day project activities, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. They are accountable for project-level profit and loss and schedule elements.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, direct, and execute all day-to-day project activities according to set timelines and budget milestones.
- Be proactive in the proposal and costing phase of the project, working in concert with Proposal/Estimating group to ensure competitiveness and maintain or increase As Sold Project Margin.
- Lead cost evaluation and scrubbing activities, presenting the entire opportunity for management’s approval.
- Write and produce best-in-class proposal documents under the guidance of a senior proposal manager.
- Maintain proposal project information in Salesforce.com.
- Interface with B&W Sales and customers during the bid phase.
- Review and interpret customer specifications, preparing exceptions and clarifications while maintaining B&W's competitive advantage.
- Engage in research of past and legacy projects using B&W business systems and archives to develop solutions and technical offerings.
- Develop initial Project Execution Plans and Price Approval Request (PAR) documentation, including technical and commercial risk assessment.
- Lead PAR meetings and provide management with updates.
- Work with the appropriate departments to develop technical and commercial offers, including Engineering, Legal, Supply Chain, Project Management, Business Units, and other groups as necessary.
- Obtain approvals for pricing, commercial, and technical positions, reviewing risks and opportunities from the Business Units.
- Develop and maintain formal communications, adequate documentation, and records of the project.
- Communicate project status and escalate critical issues within the area of responsibility.
- Utilize extensive B&W knowledge to produce quality proposals.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technology, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
- 8+ years technical experience in the power generation field, with knowledge of power plants and steam creation processes.
- Preferred knowledge of boilers firing various fuels (coal, oil, natural gas), industrial process recovery, and auxiliary systems.
- Proficient in proposal management with an emphasis on building commercial skills and developing best-in-class proposal packages.
- Knowledge and understanding of package boiler products and systems.
- Familiarity with commercial contracting and B&W contracting guidelines.
- Technical background in utility and/or heavy industrial industries.
- Technical design and graphics skills are a plus.
- Demonstrated organization, communication, and writing skills.
- Driven work ethic and ability to work in high-pressure situations.
