Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end project management for commercial construction projects valued between $200,000 and $500,000, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Cook up project activities in a highly changeable environment, adapting plans and priorities as needed to address shifting requirements and conditions.
  • Work closely with internal shop teams by regularly visiting the shop floor to check on job progress, quality, and alignment with project specifications.
  • Visit project sites to monitor work, verify progress, and ensure compliance with mechanical and structural requirements, especially for steel-related work.
  • Meet and collaborate with external stakeholders such as architects, general contractors, and engineers to review project plans, resolve issues, and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Organize and lead project meetings to coordinate schedules, resources, and deliverables, and to ensure all parties understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Utilize project engineering principles and tools, including AutoCAD, to review drawings, interpret technical documents, and support project planning and execution.
  • Identify project risks and issues early, proactively develop solutions, and take ownership of resolving conflicts and unexpected challenges.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and addressing urgent issues as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including schedules, reports, and status updates, to support transparency and effective decision-making.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and construction teams to ensure that design intent and technical specifications are implemented correctly in the field.
  • Continuously monitor project performance and implement improvements to processes, coordination, and communication as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 1–2 years of experience working as a Project Engineer or Project Manager, preferably in commercial construction.
  • Hands-on background in mechanical trades, with a strong preference for experience in steel-related work.
  • Proven experience managing projects in the $200,000 to $500,000 range, including budget oversight and schedule coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a highly changeable work environment.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, organizing, and coordinating cross-functional activities.
  • Experience working in commercial construction settings, collaborating with architects, general contractors, and engineers.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD for reviewing and interpreting drawings and technical documents.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and construction principles relevant to commercial projects.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and conditions while maintaining project momentum.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to handle urgent issues and resolve conflicts under pressure.
  • High level of personal accountability and ownership of project outcomes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a family-oriented or closely knit company environment where collaboration and mutual support are valued.
  • Background in project engineering with exposure to both shop and field operations.
  • Comfort working in roles that require frequent context switching between technical review, site visits, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective while managing urgent requests and rapidly changing project conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills to track multiple jobs, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Interest in contributing to a growing organization with expanding project volume and complexity.

Work Environment

You will work in an ever-changing environment that combines office, shop, and field settings. A typical day may include time in the shop checking on jobs and coordinating with production teams, visiting active project sites to monitor progress, and meeting with customers such as architects, general contractors, and engineers. The role requires flexibility and comfort with hybrid day-to-day activities, as you will frequently shift between planning, coordination, and on-site oversight.
