About the Role
The Project Manager is responsible for leading cross-functional projects that translate strategic priorities into clear, actionable, and measurable execution plans. Reporting to the Sr. Director, PMO, this role drives disciplined project execution by defining scope, milestones, deliverables, owners, risks, decision points, and success metrics. The ideal candidate is a highly resourceful, business-minded leader who operates effectively in ambiguity, influences without authority, and balances strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
This role partners closely with business leaders, functional leaders, site teams, and initiative owners to ensure work is prioritized, resourced, governed, and executed with focus and accountability.
Key Outcomes
- Projects have clear charters, objectives, milestones, owners, deliverables, risks, decision points, and measurable outcomes.
- Project teams understand scope, out-of-scope work, and ownership of key actions.
- Initiative governance operates with disciplined cadences, clear escalation paths, and timely decision-making.
- Project risks, dependencies, and resource constraints are surfaced early and actively managed.
- Stakeholders receive clear, concise, and executive-ready communication on project status, progress, risks, decisions, and next steps.
- Projects align with business priorities and are supported by practical tools and routines for consistent execution.
- Teams focus on the "critical few" priorities to avoid fragmentation across workstreams.
Responsibilities
- Lead Project Planning and Execution
- Translate strategic initiatives into integrated project plans with clear deliverables, timelines, milestones, owners, dependencies, and success metrics.
- Develop and maintain project plans, workback schedules, risk logs, issue trackers, decision logs, stakeholder maps, and status reporting tools.
- Ensure each project has a defined scope, business case, expected outcomes, resource requirements, and governance model.
- Drive execution discipline by clarifying priorities, timing, decision rights, and accountabilities.
- Proactively identify and resolve barriers to progress.
- Maintain momentum across workstreams while focusing teams on high-value activities.
- Establish Governance, Cadence, and Accountability
- Create and manage project governance routines, including team meetings, steering committee updates, milestone reviews, and escalation processes.
- Ensure project progress is visible through consistent reporting, clear metrics, and timely communication.
- Track actions, owners, decisions, risks, and dependencies to ensure accountability.
- Escalate risks and decisions to leaders with the information needed for timely decision-making.
- Reinforce disciplined operating routines to embed execution into business management.
- Partner Cross-Functionally to Drive Results
- Align project work with business priorities by partnering with leaders across functions such as Operations, Finance, HR, Commercial, IT, and Supply Chain.
- Build strong working relationships and influence progress without direct authority.
- Drive clarity on roles, responsibilities, decision rights, resource needs, and outcomes.
- Facilitate alignment when priorities compete or stakeholders have differing perspectives.
- Help leaders make practical trade-offs regarding scope, timing, budget, resources, and value.
- Manage Risk, Issues, Dependencies, and Change
- Identify risks, issues, dependencies, resource constraints, and execution gaps early.
- Develop mitigation plans and remove roadblocks with stakeholders.
- Monitor project health and provide updates on schedule, scope, budget, quality, adoption, and business impact.
- Anticipate operational, financial, organizational, and people-related implications of project decisions.
- Support change management by clarifying what is changing, why it matters, and how success will be measured.
- Ensure communication is clear, timely, and tailored to stakeholder needs.
- Support Business Prioritization and Value Creation
- Apply business and financial acumen to understand how projects support growth, margin improvement, operational performance, productivity, or customer outcomes.
- Help teams focus on high-value priorities and reduce effort on lower-value activities.
- Use data, metrics, and insights to inform project decisions and recommendations.
- Support prioritization by helping leaders understand resource needs, trade-offs, timing, and execution risks.
- Connect project work to 80/20 principles, simplification, segmentation, and value-creation opportunities.
- Communicate with Executive Presence
- Prepare clear, concise, and executive-ready project updates, including status summaries, dashboards, decision documents, and risk updates.
- Communicate complex information in a simple, structured, and actionable way.
- Tailor communication for senior leaders, project sponsors, functional partners, and implementation teams.
- Facilitate meetings effectively, ensuring focused discussions, captured decisions, assigned owners, and completed follow-up actions.
- Demonstrate leadership presence, sound judgment, and confidence in presenting updates and recommending solutions.
- Build Repeatable PMO Tools and Practices
- Contribute to the development and improvement of PMO tools, templates, routines, and project management standards.
- Create practical tools to make project execution easier, more consistent, and transparent.
- Identify opportunities to improve governance, reporting, decision-making, and execution discipline.
- Capture lessons learned and share best practices across projects and teams.
- Help build a culture of accountability, action orientation, and disciplined execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Organizational Effectiveness, or a related field.
- Project management experience leading cross-functional initiatives in a complex, matrixed, or multi-site environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build project plans, manage timelines, track milestones, identify risks, and drive accountability.
- Experience working with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand operational, financial, organizational, and customer implications of project work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing executive-ready updates and facilitating decision-making conversations.
- Proven ability to influence without authority and drive results through collaboration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High comfort level operating in ambiguity and creating structure where none exists.
- Proficiency with project management tools, Microsoft Office applications, and project reporting methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial, engineering, operational, commercial, or global business environments.
- Experience supporting strategic initiatives, transformation programs, operating model deployment, or enterprise-level priorities.
- Familiarity with business operating rhythms such as goal deployment, daily management, or monthly business reviews.
- Experience supporting initiatives tied to 80/20, simplification, segmentation, profitable growth, or operational improvement.
Location & Travel
Remote, based in the US, preferably in Eastern and Central time zones. Travel is required as needed to support project launches, milestone reviews, business leader working sessions, and implementation activities across the business footprint.
