About the role

We are a full-service mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and specialty piping contractor offering design and construction services across commercial, medical, technology, municipal, and government markets. The Project Intern will assist the Project Team in coordinating information for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects from inception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager in driving the project’s overall flow effectively from inception to completion.
  • Assist with project document control, including insurance, bonding, permits, submittals, RFIs, change orders, correspondence, and more.
  • Ensure documents are centrally saved in the project’s chosen document control software.
  • Verify correct drawings are distributed to the field.
  • Support the project schedule showing completion, delivery dates, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Integrate into the overall project and manpower schedule as required or directed by the Project Manager.
  • Track deliveries of major equipment and subs, indicating shipping requirements and anticipating delivery dates.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to ensure QA/QC documentation is completed and submitted as required.
  • Gather information for changes in work and turnover to estimating for pricing.
  • Assist field personnel in the closeout of the project.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Project Manager with recommendations for resolution.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Science, or a related field; completed or in progress.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with project management/document control software preferred (e.g., Autodesk Forma, MS Project, Bluebeam).
  • Must demonstrate integrity, honesty, professionalism, and commitment to company values.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, strategic, technical, analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
  • High standards of quality with attention to detail.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees, management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Ability to receive constructive criticism; teachable and trainable.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English and collaborate with customers, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors, suppliers, and other contractor organizations.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, see, talk, and listen.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to commute to field locations and navigate around job site locations.

Work Environment

  • Position is project site based; may require sitting for long periods in front of a computer and walking to the project site as needed.
  • May be required to work outdoors and exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical and electrical parts; high, precarious places; dust, fumes, or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extended exposure to sunlight; cold and heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
