About the role

This role manages financial execution of large-scale and/or complex construction projects, providing oversight and compliance from preconstruction through closeout. The primary financial contact for the project team ensures alignment between field operations, clients, and financial procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project financial oversight and compliance from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Manage and conduct billing, receivables, and collections for the project.
  • Confirm client contractual requirements and entitlements for billing.
  • Develop project budgets, forecasts, profit plans, and cash flow models.
  • Lead implementation of owner audits and contribute to Internal Review audits.
  • Lead month-end close for the project, including WIP analysis, cost-to-complete, revenue and earnings recognition, and reporting accuracy.
  • Assess and summarize project financial performance indicators and present findings to project leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify and communicate financial risks that impact project performance and earnings; align with project team on mitigation strategy and hold team accountable to action plan.
  • Oversee and confirm compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and contract-specific financial requirements.
  • Contribute financial information, issues, and recommendations in Operational Review Meetings (ORMs), Profitability Improvement Meetings (PIMs), and other financial health checks.
  • Review project financial processes, cost coding, and forecasting practices for continuous improvement and to recommend enhancements to tools, templates, and workflows.
  • Contribute to project forecasting process with operations, including Project WIP, General Conditions vs. General Requirements (GC/GR), and other project-related forecasts.
  • Supervise other Financial team members, participate in hiring process, onboard new team members, deliver timely performance feedback for direct reports, contribute to performance appraisals during annual performance cycle, utilize talent management systems, and identify appropriate training to help with development needs.
  • Facilitate project-specific training on financial systems, processes, and compliance standards to relevant project team and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited degree program in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or related field of study required with minimum of 8 years of related experience in project or construction finance supporting field operations or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of project accounting, billing, receivables, collections, financial cost control, cashflow management, forecasting, budget audits, and reporting procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
  • Knowledge of audit procedures, including planning, techniques, test and sampling methods.
  • Able to make independent judgment for determining relevancy and importance of project risks.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to analyze and summarize issues, recommend corrective actions, and influence decision-making.
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong dedication to integrity with ability to maintain discretion of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly convey complex information to non-financial audiences and deliver difficult messages.
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritize multiple complex and demanding tasks and priorities.
