General Responsibilities

Detect and devise repair/restoration strategies for the built environment. This encompasses all significant parts and systems of buildings and other infrastructure. Projects vary from property condition reviews to detailed analyses of structural systems, roofs, facades, plaza decks, below-grade waterproofing systems, MEP systems, pavements, industrial floors, and construction materials. Assessment methods include visual inspection, non-destructive testing, instrumentation and load testing, laboratory testing, and destructive examinations. Deliverables range from reports of findings and recommendations to the creation of restoration design documents and construction oversight/administration.

Manage complex, detailed portfolios and projects independently. Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate assessments, inspections, and tests of properties, buildings, and roofs. Make recommendations, adjustments, and modifications. Serve as a technical advisor to junior-level project team members. Interact directly with clients and project teams on defining project scopes, communicating project progress and findings and recommendations. Prepare routine and complex client deliverables. Prepare or oversee the preparation of client proposals and related cost estimates. Actively participate in local/regional technical and business organizations. Present professionally and author technical papers.

Comply with safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management. Ensure adherence to quality standards on all projects. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in building science or related building field and 7-10 years’ experience in facility assessment.
  • Or, in lieu of a degree, 11-14 years’ related experience.
  • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
    • Registered Roof Consultant (RRC)
    • Registered Waterproofing Consultant (RWC)
    • At least one other relevant certification (RBEC, BECxP, LEED AP)
