Project Executive or Operations Manager (PEX/OM) may be used interchangeably for this position, depending on the client, project, or Business Unit preference.

About the Role

The PEX/OM is accountable for the overall results of the project(s) under their supervision. This senior management role oversees multiple projects, ensuring their success, and serves as the primary leader. The PEX/OM is responsible for proper staffing, strategic planning, and resource allocation to achieve project goals. This position acts as a liaison between operations and business development and may manage a single large, complex project (typically over $75M) or multiple projects through delegated teams. Both Superintendents and Project Management staff may report directly to the PEX/OM. The role requires demonstrated success in a Senior Project Manager or equivalent role.

This is an onsite position. The PEX/OM may report to the Business Unit Leader or a Vice President of Operations, depending on the Business Unit’s structure, and may be accountable for a specific business market within the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the overall project leader, planner, and primary accountable person for project results.
  • Participate in the estimate process and lead as required.
  • Write and execute subcontracts and purchase orders, or delegate as necessary.
  • Participate in Owner contract processes, including negotiations, and develop a strategic plan for the project.
  • Communicate the business deal to subordinates and establish profitability goals.
  • Lead or oversee overall project scheduling and delegate scheduling roles to staff.
  • Monitor schedules and take action to ensure adherence to timelines.
  • Oversee and approve all documentation processes, including drawing controls, submittals, RFIs, filing, correspondence, and reports.
  • Approve the Change Management plan and ensure compliance.
  • Establish project procedures and execution plans, and monitor progress.
  • Oversee Owner billing procedures and approve the process.
  • Monitor subcontractor and vendor payments and processes.
  • Review cost control processes, including profitability analysis, and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure project profitability and work with staff to realize upside potential.
  • Review and enforce the safety program to ensure compliance with company policy.
  • Lead meetings, including subcontractor, Owner/Architect, and internal team meetings.
  • Develop and enhance client relationships to foster repeat business.
  • Participate in business development activities, proposal preparation, and client presentations.
  • Provide leadership in the professional and career development of subordinates, including performance evaluations.
  • Ensure projects are staffed with qualified personnel and lead recruiting efforts.
  • Understand and actively participate in the Business Unit’s strategic plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven prior success as a Senior Project Manager or equivalent role, with experience operating at the PEX/OM level.
  • Minimum of 12 years of project management experience, including at least two years as a Senior Project Manager.
  • Full understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and duties of subordinate staff, including Superintendents and Project Management teams.
  • Solid understanding of the Business Unit Leader’s role and ability to integrate operations within the Business Unit’s structure and strategic plan.

Skills

  • Ability to manage large, complex projects or multiple smaller projects through subordinate staff.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and resource allocation skills.
  • Proficiency in project scheduling, cost control, and profitability analysis.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Experience in business development, proposal preparation, and client presentations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift and carry office supplies and equipment up to 20 pounds.
