Project Engineer (Transportation Engineering Technician V)
About the role
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is seeking a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Engineer to support its construction and design projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with contract specifications and overseeing the work of construction inspectors.
Responsibilities
- Monitor all phases of the construction project and ensure compliance with contract documents and building codes;
- Supervise and assist lower-level inspectors, assigning workloads and ensuring assignments are completed;
- Daily communication with contractors to coordinate work;
- Review and coordinate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans;
- Consult with supervisors and design engineers on design changes;
- Maintain accurate and complete project records;
- Check measurements for proper calculations and payments;
- Interact with other MDTA divisions and state agencies.
Requirements
- Eight years of experience in technical engineering related work;
- At least one year of supervisory experience in construction projects;
- Working knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems;
- Driver's License valid in the State of Maryland;
- NICET certification or ability to obtain within a given time period;
- Field testing procedures certification in concrete, soil aggregate, and Hot Mix Asphalt.
Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate;
- Education in a civil engineering curriculum from an accredited college or university (up to 30 credits can be substituted for experience).
Skills
Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems, experience in technical engineering, and strong supervisory skills are preferred.

Schedule
Work conditions vary depending on assignments and may include office work and field inspections. Shifts and weekends may be required, and travel may be necessary.
