Responsibilities
- Assists in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, structural design, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks.
- Assists in research design options and documents findings.
- Ensures accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness, and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
- Researches code requirements.
- Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing current professional publications; establishing professional networks; and participating in professional societies.
- Aids or participates in the preparation of project proposals and other business development efforts.
- May assist or participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection, materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis on highway design, traffic and transportation engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure for the State of Illinois required.
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Minimum 3+ years progressively responsible experience as a Transportation Engineer or similar position.
- Show familiarity with ISTHA/IDOT policies, roadway design and plan preparation, and construction engineering.
- Experience with MicroStation design software.
- Experience with Geopak SS4/3D, modeling, cross sections, and SUDA is a plus.
