Project Engineer - Public Works

About the role

Sunland Asphalt is seeking a Project Engineer to join their team in Phoenix, AZ. The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of project management, site development, and critical path scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure accurate resource tracking.
• Support field crews with daily assignments.
• Participate in job-site and safety meetings.
• Attend weekly production meetings and coordinate with Project Inspectors.
• Perform project cost accounting functions.
• Coordinate and verify Traffic Control Plans.
• Document safety incidents and near misses.
• Supervise subcontractors to ensure quality standards are met.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering or 2-5 years' experience in Civil Concrete or related fields.
• Previous heavy construction or concrete industry experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience with MS Project Scheduling software or equivalent.
• Strong mathematical skills for layout design and material requirements.
• Broad knowledge of project management, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and contract administration.
• OSHA safety training a plus.
• Fluent in English, including the ability to read, speak, and write English.
• Meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be able to operate vehicles and trailers safely.
• Must be able to operate equipment and machinery safely.
