About the role

Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) of Elgin, IL is seeking a full-time Project Engineer (Preliminary Engineering).

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for a variety of municipal and private projects including roadway reconstruction, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, bridges, trails, and traffic signals.
  • Aid in the concept, design, and engineering required to complete IDOT and Local Roads preliminary engineering projects.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with clients and stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
  • Understand project schedules and implement accordingly.
  • Understand and execute requirements for different funding opportunities.
  • Prepare and execute exhibits to communicate with clients for inclusion in project reports.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or government regulations.
  • Environmental Survey Request process.
  • Write project reports.
  • Write Funding Applications.
  • Prepare project cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois or an EIT with the ability to achieve State of Illinois License within 12 months.
  • Valid Driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with IDOT and Phase I projects.

Desired Skills and Experiences

  • Experience with ISTHA/IDOT and Local Roads project processing procedures.
  • Microstation/Geopak software.
  • Geometric Design.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, walk, reach, crouch, bend, and walk or stand on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Constant hand, finger, and arm use.
  • Prolonged reading.

Schedule

Pay

$85,000 - $105,000 per year.
