About the role
Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) of Elgin, IL is seeking a full-time Project Engineer (Preliminary Engineering).
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for a variety of municipal and private projects including roadway reconstruction, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, bridges, trails, and traffic signals.
- Aid in the concept, design, and engineering required to complete IDOT and Local Roads preliminary engineering projects.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with clients and stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
- Understand project schedules and implement accordingly.
- Understand and execute requirements for different funding opportunities.
- Prepare and execute exhibits to communicate with clients for inclusion in project reports.
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or government regulations.
- Environmental Survey Request process.
- Write project reports.
- Write Funding Applications.
- Prepare project cost estimates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois or an EIT with the ability to achieve State of Illinois License within 12 months.
- Valid Driver's license with a good driving record.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with IDOT and Phase I projects.
Desired Skills and Experiences
- Experience with ISTHA/IDOT and Local Roads project processing procedures.
- Microstation/Geopak software.
- Geometric Design.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, walk, reach, crouch, bend, and walk or stand on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
- Constant hand, finger, and arm use.
- Prolonged reading.
