Project Engineer (PE) Electrical - Sr Technical Manager
About the role
This opportunity is for a Project Engineer (PE) for WSP's Power Delivery team in Billings, MT. The position is available in multiple office locations including Seattle, WA; Denver, CO; Charlotte, NC; Houston, TX; Phoenix, AZ, and Freeport, ME. The role involves working with the project management team, engineering teams, and directly with clients to manage business development.
Responsibilities
- Work with the project management team, engineering teams, and directly with clients to manage business development among existing and new clients targeting NERC compliance services.
- Lead others in the preparation of proposals and execute studies and provide engineering services for utility, renewable, and industrial/commercial electrical power transmission and distribution systems.
- Develop and lead/participate in compliance studies and engineering documentation for compliance with relevant NERC standards.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Promote company culture while managing internal and external relationships.
- Collaborate with other teams, business units, business developers, and marketers.
- Develop & maintain schedules, lead/participate in project meetings with project teams, oversee budgets, participate in proposal preparation, and take leading role in client relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
- Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
- Three (3) + years' relevant project leadership experience.
- Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards across all Operations & Planning (O&P) and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), including, but not limited to, CIP, EOP, FAC, MOD, PRC, TPL, and VAR.
- Experience executing or leading studies for one or more of these standards.
- Familiarity with utilities, developers, operators, and renewable companies subject to NERC.
- Relevant experience includes small- to medium-scale project lead engineering experience on projects.
- Knowledge of substation and grid operation as they relate to the above listed.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Good English verbal and written communication skills, willingness to travel, and ability to work in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment.
- Flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
- Experience in protective relaying, SCADA, substation communications, cybersecurity, transmission planning, or other studies is beneficial, but not required.

Compensation
Expected Salary (Denver & Seattle): $134,700yr - $244,000yr
